New location, new date: Inver Grove Heights Food Truck Day set

Inver Grove Heights Food Truck Day is back, and a great lineup is ready to come serve a wide variety of delicious food.

The event takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 9015 Broderick Boulevard, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076. This is the former Rainbow Foods location and the event will take place in the former Rainbow Foods parking lot.

The event is put on by Progress Plus, the River Heights Chamber of Commerce and the City of Inver Grove Heights. Progress Plus is a public-private partnership in Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul that drives economic development. Progress Plus is the River Heights Chamber of Commerce Foundation. This group originally scheduled a food truck event for August 18 at the Argenta Hills parking lot, but liability concerns put the end to those plans. Kudos to all involved for coming up with an alternative date, and location, to make the Food Truck day event happen again this year.

Despite poor weather, last year’s Food Truck Day in September was a big hit. That event was held in the parking lot of Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This year’s event will be held in an Arbor Pointe location that is trying to attract new businesses to the area. Businesses are currently expressing interest in buying or leasing the old Rainbow location. Events like this can be used to promote business opportunities within Inver Grove Heights.

Jennifer Gale, President of the River Heights Chamber of Commerce and the Progress Plus Economic Development Foundation, talked about this prior to last year’s Food Truck event.

“The River Heights Chamber of Commerce gets asked all the time why don’t we try to attract more restaurants into the community,” says Gale. “We know that the market is what dictates if and when restaurants will enter into our communities, but together, the City and the Chamber can partner to provide a fun experience for those that work in the community for one day. We value the restaurants in Inver Grove Heights and hope this compliments the existing venues by bringing in people from all over Dakota County to see what IGH has to offer.”

The Food Truck lineup includes a good variety of trucks, including:

  • Hometown Meats
  • Nate Dog’s
  • Tiki Tim’s
  • A Peace of Cake
  • Sandy’s Grill and Italian Ice
  • Bacon Me Crazy
  • Tastebuds

The article Six St. Paul Food Trucks You Should Be Tracking from Eater said this about Bacon Me Crazy: “Our nation’s love of bacon runs deep, so deep in fact, there is a plethora of food trucks around the country showcasing the sizzling delicacy. In St. Paul, we have Bacon-Me-Crazy, which features the golden strips of pig fat on lunch items like the Triple Threat Burger, bourbon bacon grilled cheese and bacon cheddar fries. Seriously.”

The same article said this about Tiki Tim’s, which was a hit at South Saint Paul’s monthly food truck day at Bridgepoint Business Park: “Tiki Tim’s changes their offerings as inspiration strikes, but their menu focuses on tropical dishes like Tiki Cakes – crab and shrimp patties kicked up a notch with jalapeno peppers and drizzled with roasted red pepper mayo. You can even hire the shiny blue truck to cater your next Luau.”

Hometown Meats is always a local favorite, serving up delicious hamburgers and other grilled meat products. Natedog’s features amazing footlong hot dogs – best served with their famous homemade honey-spiced mustard. Sandy’s Grill and Italian Ice serves up American charbroiled foods, Italian water ice and sorbet, and a Peace of Cake takes mini donuts to a whole new level. The St. Paul Pioneer Press said this about A Peace of Cake:

“A plain mini doughnut — golden and slightly crispy outside, warm and fluffy inside — is covered with a specialty topping, such as Sriracha-Honey, Rainbow Sprinkles, Cookies N Cream or more-familiar chocolate, vanilla or caramel. Our favorite was the Salty Dawg. Dripping with caramel and chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt, it was rich and delicious. Also catching our attention was the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, which melted into the warm mini doughnuts for another gooey, tasty delight.”

TasteBuds of Minnesota serves Italian beef sandwiches, Italian beef fries, a variety of chicken wings, chop steak burgers on Texas toast, chili cheese dogs, pizza puffs, nachos and more.

A great lineup is in store for Inver Grove Heights Food Truck Day. Bring your appetite, and sample as many as you can.
