Was 2017 the greatest year ever for Inver Grove Heights restaurants?
We say yes it was, for the reasons below.
Three new restaurants opened in IGH in 2017:
- 1.2.3. Pasta
- IWA Sushi
- Taqueria El Rincon
Now, just because a new restaurant opens doesn’t mean it’s a success. What makes these three a part of a successful 2017 is the fact that all three of these restaurants serve exceptional food. The reality is 1.2.3. Pasta, IWA Sushi, and Taqueria El Rincon all exceeded expectations – much to many negative nellie’s who used social media to predict that these restaurants would fail.
They were wrong. Here is why:
1.2.3. Pasta serves up some of the best pasta in the east metro. If this restaurant was in St. Paul, or Minneapolis, all the local food publications would be writing rave reviews about it. Some of them even did – as the Pioneer Press and Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine recognized 1.2.3 Pasta for serving outstanding, authentic Italian food.
As for IWA Sushi, sushi fans and non-sushi fans can find something they like. Located in Argenta Hills, IWA Sushi has very affordable happy hour lunch and dinner specials. Don’t like sushi? The hibachi noodles (we recommend the filet mignon or shrimp) are fantastic. There are appetizers, fried rice, and other noodle dishes. Like 1.2.3. Pasta, IWA Sushi exceeded expectations and is keeping hope that restaurants can succeed in Argenta Hills.
Taqueria El Rincon
As for Taqueria El Rincon, the tacos are full of meat, authentic and tasty. But the unique items – like the Alambre, help this new restaurant stand out in a now crowded IGH Mexican restaurant scene. The Asada tacos, for $2.50, are among the best in the Twin Cities, and filled with so much meat two tacos could be enough for the average eater. But there is more as well, including daily specials, and chips and salsa, with a hot sauce that will burn the tongue and make lips quiver while needing milk to cool down. Taqueria El Rincon is another success, and if you haven’t tried it out yet, you should.
But there are more than three restaurant openings that make 2017 the greatest year in Inver Grove Heights restaurant history. Among other 2017 highlights:
B52 Burgers and Brew Rooftop Patio
B52 Burgers and Brew added a rooftop patio and continued to be a local favorite for burger lovers. The Pioneer Press said this about the B52 Burgers and Brew Skirt Burger: “The skirt burger, which tops a juicy patty with jalapenos and bacon and then a slab of jack and cheddar cheese that’s allowed to run over and hit the griddle on the edges, creating a crispy “skirt” of cheese. Trust us, it’s great.”
Inver Grove Heights was named the 6th Best Small City in the United States to start a small business.
The Old World Pizza Buffet was named Best Buffet in Minnesota by Onlyinyourstate.com.
Celts Pub of Inver Grove Heights started serving Coney Dogs. And they are good.
There is even now a junk food delivery service that delivers junk food to Inver Grove Heights residents.
J’s Fish and Chicken moved to a new location next to Bike King, giving this popular restaurant more visibility along a busier stretch of Cahill.
The A&W cruise night classic car show held on Tuesday’s in the summer, was a huge success, attracting car enthusiasts and fans of the restaurant serving classic American fare.
These are some of the 2017 highlights with some popular Inver Grove Heights restaurants.
What didn’t happen in IGH in 2017
Despite these successes, there still some hiccups in the IGH restaurant and grocery store scene in 2017. All Cub Foods got a remodel. The Inver Grove Heights Cub though, only got a new sign. White Castle announced its 2017 Craver Hall of Fame winners – and there are still no IGH residents in the White Castle Craver Hall of Fame. Surely there is a HOF worthy IGH resident that frequents the IGH White Castle.
We also investigated and found out some other restaurant news. Among that news – Wendy’s will not be opening a restaurant in IGH anytime soon, if ever. Taco Bell is not opening in IGH, but Red Savoy’s Pizza would consider IGH if the right franchisee came along. As for Arby’s – no, they are not coming to IGH, despite bad social media rumors.
Overall, it was a great year for Inver Grove Heights restaurants – and a reason to believe that 2017 was the greatest year for restaurants in the history of Inver Grove Heights. After all, the city transformed from a great place to live, but an average place to eat, to a great place to live, and an above average place to eat.
