Have you ever wondered why the coca-cola at McDonald’s tastes so good?
Probably about as much as wondering why or how Inver Grove Heights has two McDonald’s, right?
As for Coca-Cola at McDonald’s, there is science behind it. Kind of.
While people love their Big Mac’s, quarter-pounders with cheese, happy meals and chicken nuggets, there is also a special fondness for the fountain coca-cola from McDonald’s. If you have ever thought Coca-Cola from McDonald’s tastes better, you are not alone. It does taste better, and Anne Christensen, Spokesperson for McDonald’s Minnesota, explains why:
The water and Coca-Cola syrup are pre-chilled before entering our fountain dispensers with the ratio of syrup set to allow for ice to melt. We also keep our fountain beverage system cold so your drink can always be at the peak of refreshing. In order to ensure our drinks are always meeting a gold standard, we have proper filtration methods in place.
There’s also our straw – it’s slightly wider than a typical straw, so all that Coke taste can hit your taste buds.
“We love that our customers have such a fondness for Coca-Cola from McDonald’s,” says Christensen. “There are many reasons why Coca-Cola tastes so great at McDonald’s. We simply follow the guidelines set by Coca-Cola and take steps to ensure it tastes the same as when you buy it in a bottle.”
The Business Insider article Why McDonald’s Coke tastes better, discusses the process in greater detail, highlighting storage of the Coca-Cola, stating “unlike most fast food restaurants that have Coca-Cola delivered in plastic bags, McDonald’s has the product delivered in stainless steel containers that help preserve the ingredients and keep the Coke tasting fresher.”
In addition The McDonald’s website says that “in order to ensure our drinks are always meeting a gold standard, we have proper filtration methods in place.” The fast-food chain actually filters their water more than most competitors and invests a lot of money into maintaining their filtration system. Fresh water = fresh Coke.
The temperature, syrup and straw also play a key role in McDonald’s Coca-Cola tasting so good.
