From a historical standpoint, St. Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland and a cultural and religious celebration held on Mach 17, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
St. Patrick’s Day is also the unofficial kickoff to spring and one of the best damn party days of the year.
While thousands of partygoers will head to the daylong bash throughout downtown St. Paul, those looking to stay close to home can find a place to party, some good food and maybe a new friend or two at these top 5 places to eat and party in Inver Grove Heights on St. Patrick’s Day.
1. Celts Pub
The unofficial Best Irish Bar in Inver Grove Heights (albeit the only Irish bar in the city), Celts Pub kicks off the St. Patrick’s Weekend party Thursday with 22 ounce Miller Lite green beers for $3.50 all day long, with corned beef and cabbage for those seeking Irish sustenance. There will also be a DJ from 8 p.m. to close. Friday is ladies night (8-10 p.m.), while Saturday specials include $3 domestic bottles from 9-11 p.m and a DJ from 9 p.m. to close. On Sunday happy hour runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., highlighted by Bargo at 2 p.m. Raise your hand if you plan to make it to Celts every day from Thursday through Sunday for the ultimate St. Patrick’s Day party weekend!
And while you are there, check out the great selection of craft beers at Celts Pub. Also the best dive bar in Inver Grove Heights and to the surprise of many, Celts has the best selection of craft beers on tap in the city. Try the Bent Paddle Cold Press Black Ale between a shot or two of Jameson and the party will go until the sun comes up, or until you pass out in the Weird Room at Hodges’ house.
2. Mississippi Pub
Party on the best patio in Inver Grove Heights and enjoy a wide variety of food and drink specials at the Mississippi Pub Thursday and throughout St. Patrick’s Day weekend. While you are there, check out the recently remodeled Pub and enjoy the many St. Patrick’s Day specials, including corned beef and cabbage and reuben flatbreads along with green beer, big ginger and shot specials all weekend long, starting Thursday. Friday the always entertaining and mischievous Dos Equis girls will be at the Pub from 6:30-7:30 p.m. On Saturday there will be acoustic music from Roger Allen from 4-7 p.m. and DJ Mat will take the party at the Pub to the next level from 8 p.m. until close. These are just a few of the food and drink specials for what is sure to be a memorable weekend of partying at the Pub.
3. Jerseys Bar and Grill
Jersey’s Bar and Grill has been the premiere St. Patrick’s Day party place in Inver Grove Heights for the last decade. Look for the party to be rockin’ (or hip-hopping based on entertainment) once again Thursday. A variety of food and drink specials will make sure you party until your pants come off (when you get home that is). First, the food. Specials run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and include reuben juicy lucy’s (this is an award-winning quality burger), corned beef and cabbage and reuben’s that will help soak up the alcohol. Speaking of alcohol, those specials include: $2.75 pints of green beer and drinks, $3 domestic bottles, $4 craft pints and discounted apps.
The late night specials (9-11 p.m.) include $1 green beers, $4 Guinness pints and $5 car bombs.
As for the entertainment, Thursday’s party will be broadcast live via 105 The Vibe with Tony Fly from 4-7 p.m. Because, you know, there ain’t no party like a Tony Fly Party and a Tony Fly Party don’t stop! DJ Bob will spin throwback jams from 4-7:30 p.m. and there will be live music from Good for Gary at 9 p.m. This includes an $8 cover charge, and no you can’t say “I know the owner” and expect to get in free EVERY time you go to Jersey’s.
If you’re looking for a little more low key atmosphere, head to the Bierstube in Inver Grove Heights. But don’t underestimate the dark bar, as partygoers at The Bierstube can get rowdy, and this close-knit crew of beer drinkers will be sure to kick it up a notch come St. Patrick’s Day. Especially that guy who sits at the far end of the bar and knows everything about everything. Yes, the Bierstube’s own Cliff Clavin.
St. Patrick’s Day specials at The Bierstube in Inver Grove Heights include $5 Jameson shots, $2 pints of green beer, corn beef and cabbage for $12, a meat raffle and karaoke at 7 p.m. – which is when things really get out of hand at The Stube.
5. B52 Burgers and Brew
Some great Irish eats are currently available at B52 now through March 20. Some of the Irish fare includes Potato Leek Soup, Irish Tacos (made with corned beef), Corned Beef Hash, The Blarney Burger (corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing served juicy style), Shepherd’s Pie and Pudding Parfait – a white chocolate and mint Oreo parfait. You can also add a pint of Miller Lite for $3.
Inver Grove Heights may not be the first choice for the diehard St. Patrick’s Day partier, but there are plenty of party options in the city and this St. Patrick’s Day can be one to remember by staying local.
