Are you looking to start a small business? Then look no further than Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. That’s because it’s the best place in Minnesota to start a small business and one of the top 10 best places in the United States to start a small business.
That’s according to a a recent survey from financial planning web site WalletHub. In that survey, Inver Grove Heights was named the sixth-best city in the United States to start a small business.
The survey examined 1,268 cities around the country and assessed factors such as the average growth of the number of small businesses, the revenue for those companies, access to resources such as financing and investors, the cost of living and the affordability of office space and the overall cost of living.
Inver Grove Heights was the only Minnesota city to make the top 10 list and only Minnesota city to rank in the top 100. The next Minnesota city on the list was St. Cloud, which was ranked at No. 271, followed by Owatonna (No. 342), Minnetonka (416), Moorhead (421), Richfield (425) and Fridley (475) in the top 500. Inver Grove Heights is located in Dakota County, about 12 miles south of downtown St. Paul and had a population of 33,880 at the 2010 census.
This may come to a surprise to many Inver Grove Heights residents, who see empty buildings and what is perceived as a lack of small business, shopping and dining opportunities as problematic. However, this list may show that, based on these factors, Inver Grove Heights is a great place to start a small business. And, despite gripes from residents about what the city doesn’t have, especially with dining options, there is actually a pretty diverse list of restaurants in the city.
