Update: A reader sent this to email@example.com on Wednesday June 15 about the Mediterranean Grill:
I’m eating the combo meal and it is delicious! Thanks for sharing about this place. I never would have discovered it on my own. I’m having the Marinated ckicken kabob gyro hummus with rice and salad and pita bread. One serving will feed me for days! Plus he gave me a free pop!
The Mediterranean Grill is now open in Inver Grove Heights. If you haven’t heard of it, or don’t know where it is, you are not alone. That’s because it isn’t easy to find and isn’t your typical restaurant.
The reason you likely haven’t heard of The Mediterranean Grill is because it’s tucked inside a gas station/convenience store that could also qualify as the best dive convenience store in the city.
Located at 5465 Babcock Trail in Inver Grove Heights, The Mediterranean Grill is located inside the GM Food & Gas station, also known as the Clark gas station, next to Lake Cove. There is no sign that says “Mediterranean Grill” inside the store, but that name is displayed on the menu. Locals near the mean streets of Babcock call it the Lake Cove Cafe, and are hush hush about the food at their local store, not wanting others to find out about their secret go-to grill and gas station.
This GM Food & Gas/Clark convenience/grocery store is somewhat similar to something you would see in rural Minnesota or Wisconsin, with a wide selection of beef sticks from Husnik Meats, a huge selection of soda and energy drinks, frozen foods, cereal and canned foods and other household items. It’s not the most visually appealing store inside and out and is easy to pass by when driving on Babcock. The fact that the lights are out on the sign in front of the store adds to the appeal of it being a dive convenience/grocery store.
As for The Mediterranean Grill: It’s not a sit down restaurant – but instead just what it is named – a grill that’s ready to serve made-to-order food at a counter. There are hot items available throughout the day that are already made and ready for purchase, especially over the lunch and dinner hours. The menu features a wide variety of foods. Think J’s Fish and Chicken, but inside a gas station, and you get The Mediterranean Grill. They have a new chef who is a pretty jovial and upbeat guy and someone who you can tell takes pride in serving and making food. He also delivers within three miles for orders of $15 or more. They also accept takeout/to-go orders (651-457-8800).
Select menu items include:
Sandwiches: Gyros, philly cheese steaks, chicken philly’s, catfish sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, Italian beef, chicken or buffalo wraps
Mediterranean combos: Marinated chicken, kabob, gyro, hummus served with rice and salad. Similar fish, gyro and kabob combos available.
