New sushi restaurant expected to open in Argenta Hills neighborhood of Inver Grove Heights

On November 7 of 2016, Eat IGH learned that a lease had been signed for a new restaurant to open in the Argenta Hills neighborhood of Inver Grove Heights, located off Highway 55 and South Robert Trail.

Through a series of emails with representatives from Colliers International, and McGough Construction – the property manager of the Argenta Hill Development, Eat IGH worked to find out the name of the restaurant, and/or the style of restaurant.

While the representatives from Colliers and McGough wouldn’t disclose the information, Eat IGH friendly readers did. And what we have learned is this:

A new sushi restaurant is expected to open this summer in the Argenta Hills Development. A source who lives in the Argenta Hills Development told Eat IGH this Friday morning:

“Last night we attended an informational meeting about a huge apartment complex that’s considering building across from Target…While there, they mentioned that a sushi restaurant will be moving in next to the credit union. Opening sometime this summer. Finally something in that retail space.”

The “they” was a representative from McGough Construction, and the source said “They referred to it as a done deal but wouldn’t say their name.”

But they did say it was a sushi restaurant.

And on December 13 the McGough source told Eat IGH this, when asking if the owners would like to promote the new restaurant:

“They are definitely interested in your help. They just want to wait until closer to opening to promote the business, which is not unusual.  Everything is moving forward and you will see construction starting soon.”

Some more details: In August of 2016, Eat IGH learned a fast casual restaurant was considering expanding into Inver Grove Heights.

This appears to be that restaurant. The article also stated this restaurant would be about 2,500 square feet and is described as “very fresh and progressive, with a contemporary build out. They serve alcohol and also offer outdoor seating.”

The contact from Colliers also said the restaurant would be on the same side as the pet dermatologist clinic (we are guessing the northern most building on the east side, across from the Credit Union).

Chances are even though we are finally getting a new business – and restaurant at that – in Argenta Hills, a sushi restaurant won’t please everyone. But at least one Argenta Hills resident is excited.

“I’m not going to lie – I’m excited about sushi. Hopefully it will do well and we’ll get a more well rounded restaurant moving in.”

We at Eat IGH agree – sushi, done right, can be fantastic. And this provides a unique alternative to other dining options in Inver Grove Heights. People complain we don’t have a Taco Bell, Wendy’s or Arby’s, among unhealthy fast food options, so why not be excited about something unique like a sushi restaurant?

Now, we wait, and wait for the many questions to be answered.

What is the name of the restaurant? When will construction start? And how long will it take to open? Will it really open this summer or will it be a 1.2.3 Pasta-style opening/not opening, put sign up and still not sure when they are opening, type of opening? Those are all questions to be determined.

But whether one likes sushi or not, this restaurant is unique to Inver Grove Heights, and an alternative to the other restaurant/dining options in town.

So now we wait, but we do know this: A new restaurant is coming to Argenta Hills, and Inver Grove Heights. A sushi restaurant at that. We’ll take it.
