Moving Forward: B52 Burgers and Brew close to finalizing 100-seat rooftop patio expansion

B52 Burgers and Brew in Inver Grove Heights is close to receiving final approval to add a 100-seat rooftop patio. On Monday, November 15, the Inver Grove Heights Planning Commission unanimously approved the 2,300-square foot rooftop expansion, and commission members were excited about the potential new addition to one of the best restaurants in Inver Grove Heights.

“(The) design looks really lovely, and I think this will be one of the coolest things around for miles once it’s done,” said Planning Commission member Elizabeth Niemioja.

Another member of the Commission referenced that this would be a great addition to Inver Grove Heights, especially considering there is so much negative feedback about the restaurant and retail status in Inver Grove Heights.

Now that the planning commission has approved the expansion, it goes to a final vote from the city council on November 28. The commission did address some concerns around parking, noise and access to the rooftop, but those were covered in the meeting and Brandon Bramscher, co-owner of B52 Burgers and Brew, was present at the meeting to answer questions regarding those concerns.

To add more parking spaces the restaurant will eliminate the current patio for the expansion and additional parking. Owners of the hotels and movie theaters on opposite sides of B52 are on board, and the restaurant already has a shared parking agreement with AMC Showplace 16 Movie Theater. Bramscher addressed noise concerns, indicating that the rooftop would not host live music, but perhaps have acoustic performers on the rooftop patio.

“It’s important to maintain good relationships with our neighbors,” said Bramscher. “We think it’s going to be a nice asset for our neighbors and community.”

The plans are available on the city web site, and an image of an artist rendering of the proposed rooftop patio expansion is posted at the bottom of this article. Expansion plans are also available for public review at normal business hours planning department. EatIGH has reached out to B52 owners for more information and timing, and will update the article as more information becomes available.

B52 Burgers and Brew is known for its burgers, food and happy hour specials, and is one of the most popular restaurants in Inver Grove Heights. B52 was a winner of the 2014 Twin Cities Burger Battle and featured on Travel Channel’s Food Paradise. They also have a food truck. And soon, they will hopefully have a rooftop patio, something everyone in Inver Grove Heights should be excited about.
