Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota is a great city. Residents love the small town feel located near the heart of the city. But despite this, people often end up in surrounding communities such as Eagan, Woodbury and West Saint Paul when looking for a restaurant or place to grab a quick bite to eat.
The city of just under 35,000, located in Dakota County, Minnesota and minutes south of downtown Saint Paul, is home to two Subways, three Asian-style restaurants, two McDonald’s, six pizza places and the typical chain restaurants including Applebee’s, Outback Steakhouse and Ruby Tuesday. The city features limited quality dining options, mediocre grocery stores and no good deli’s. When new dining/restaurants and businesses come in, they have struggled recently. Papa Murphy’s, Cherry Berry, El Loro, Eddy’s Bar and Grill and Pizza Man have all closed in recent years for various reasons. In addition, the city is limited to a Cub Foods that is stripped down compared to other surrounding communities. Rainbow Foods went out of business and Aldi has recently come into town, providing cheaper prices than the stale Cub Foods in town. The city also has a JV Target and a strip of retail buildings near it that can’t be filled. One thing Inver Grove Heights does have is good bar/pub fare as places such as Jersey’s Bar and Grill, B52 Burgers and Brew, Drkula’s Bowl and the Mississippi Pub all have solid food options.
Everybody in Inver Grove Heights has their likes, dislikes, favorites and restaurant wish list. Residents have many questions: Why won’t Chipotle come to Inver Grove Heights? Why can’t we get a Wendy’s? How about Taco Bell? Note: EatIGH had a discussion with the franchisee director for Taco Bell a week or so ago and he provided insight on Taco Bell coming to IGH. There is potential – but there are reasons they are not here. That will be discussed in-depth soon. Others want what they deem “healthier” food like a Panera Bread. Residents want more and want to know why there isn’t more.
The goal of this site is to review, analyze and discuss all things food, eating, dining and drinking in the City of IGH, as well as surrounding communities. The site will also provide news and information related to eating and dining in Inver Grove Heights. Residents of Inver Grove Heights want better options. But because we want it, doesn’t mean it will come. This site will work on investigating the reasons why restaurants won’t come to the city. It will also provide restaurant reviews and analysis, Best of Lists, general food and eating discussion and other news and information valuable (and some maybe not so valuable) to the residents of Inver Grove Heights.
