It’s a repeat! For the second year in a row, Jersey’s Bar & Grill of Inver Grove Heights has won the Great Neighbors Food Fight burger competition. The competition, a benefit for Neighbors, Inc., was held during February and March.
Participants purchased a Food Fight card and redeemed it for a burger at each of the participating restaurants and then voted online for their favorite burger.
What’s most important however, is that the event raised over $6,000 for the emergency and supportive service programs at Neighbors, Inc., a non-profit, social-service agency serving the Northern Dakota County communities of Inver Grove Heights, South St. Paul, West St. Paul, Mendota Heights, Mendota, Sunfish Lake and Lilydale. Primarily through the service of volunteers, Neighbors provides emergency assistance and supportive assistance programs.
Participating restaurants included Jersey’s Bar and Grill, B-52 Burgers and Brew and the Mississippi Pub of Inver Grove Heights and the Cherokee Tavern and the 5-8 Grill & Tap of West Saint Paul.
“We are honored to be the winners of the food fight, especially with the competition being as good as it is,” said Bill Ashton, owner of Jersey’s Bar and Grill.
In a related development, Ashton also announced that he and B-52 Burgers and Brew owner Mark Reese will be in Las Vegas next week and during that trip, Reese is expected to grill Ashton for trade secrets in an attempt to overcome Jersey’s stronghold on the great food fight title.
Throughout the contest guest blogger Matt McLagan documented each burger on the Neighbor’s blog
Here is what Matt said about his experience at Jersey’s:
“For my fifth and final stop on what has been a fun and filling journey, I went to Jerseys with my dad, Clinton, and his wife, Jane. We saved this place for last so we could have the Burger of the Month, which in March is the Reuben Juicy. Wow, what a great burger! It’s stuffed with Swiss cheese and corned beef, and topped with more Swiss, sauerkraut and thousand island sauce on a pumpernickel bun. What I loved is you can put all this stuff on a burger that you wouldn’t think should go on a burger, and it tastes amazing. Our server, Laura, was kind and attentive, bringing me my Nordeast at just the right moment Thanks for reading my blog and taking this journey with me.”
