Celts Pub is the best dive bar in Inver Grove Heights.
But even dive bars need repairs and remodels. And Celts Pub recently underwent a much-needed update that won’t be noticed by many, but will be appreciated by all.
At long last, Celts Pub in Inver Grove Heights had a new roof put on. This should mean no more leaks. And it should hopefully mean no more tiles hanging from the ceiling, allowing those leaks to drip into a bucket.
It was an expensive project, but one that was needed – badly.
Ahhh, the joys of the dive bar right?
According to the Urban Dictionary a dive bar is: “A well-worn, unglamorous bar, often serving a cheap, simple selection of drinks to a regular clientele.”
According to Wikipedia (forgive us for quoting Wikipedia, but we liked this description) dive bars “may also be referred to as neighborhood bars, where local residents gather to drink and socialize.”
It’s safe to say Celts is well-worn – oh if those walls could talk, the stories they would tell. Especially that exterior wall on the Southwest side that is set to cave in at any time.
Unglamorous? That’s Celts. But that’s what we love about Celts. You can show up without a care in the world for how you look, how you dress and without a dime in your pocket because there will likely be someone there you know who would buy you a beer. As for the cheap part – Celts isn’t cheap anymore, but they do have a great and underrated selection of craft beer. And while craft beer and dive bars don’t often go hand-in-hand, it’s nice to try something different and still have the option to order from a wide selection of domestic taps and bottles at Celts.
It’s definitely a neighborhood bar where local residents gather to drink and socialize. Any weekend afternoon or night will find regulars such as Hodge, Butch or Whitey sitting at the bar sharing stories, sipping suds and reminiscing, while also creating new memories. There’s always that brave soul who absolutely sucks at singing who will take his or her turn at karaoke because no one cares (or even listens for that matter), and every now and then there is that out-of-town roughneck who shows up to play a serious game of pool, only to find out they are clearly outnumbered by locals when they start to flex those beer muscles and talk tough. There is a jukebox – a must for any dive bar, pizza from a pizza oven, and bartenders who will be sure to share a story, swear at you or do a shot with you – all in the same conversation (thanks Mort and Ronnie).
There isn’t anything better than heading to a dive bar with your best buddies to let loose for a while – and you can do that at Celts Pub in Inver Grove Heights. Celts is the best dive bar in Inver Grove Heights and finally got a much-needed new roof. Now, if they can fix that bathroom, the exterior wall, put in a new floor…and make some much-needed additional updates…the best dive bar in Inver Grove Heights will still be the best dive bar – just a new and improved dive bar.
But a new roof is a good start. We’ll take it.
