Cinco de Mayo takes place Friday, May 5. And while the origin of Cinco de Mayo is to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, the holiday has turned into a festive and fun day for all to celebrate the greatness of Mexican cuisine.
And to the surprise of many, Inver Grove Heights is suddenly a hot spot of Mexican food options.
And nothing says Mexican food more than tacos. Whether one likes authentic Mexican tacos, or American-style tacos, there are plenty of Inver Grove Heights restaurants that serve up delicious tacos. So where you can you find the best tacos in Inver Grove Heights to celebrate Cinco de Mayo? Below, we list restaurants and tacos we recommend, along with some other unique Mexican cuisine options in the city of Inver Grove Heights:
1. American Beef Tacos from Restaurant Rincon Mexicano
These are simple, Americanized, and fantastic. Why would one go to an outstanding authentic Mexican restaurant like Rincon Mexicano and order Americanized tacos? Because they are delicious, that’s why. Order them this way: Ask for the American beef taco, hard shell, with everything on it. It will come in a crispy yellow hardshell, with beef, lettuce, cheese and tomato. Ask for onions, and top with the Restaurant Rincon Mexicano red sauce. Simple. Not overly big. But simply awesome. Rincon Mexicano is located next to Snap Fitness at 3064 65th st E Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, MN 55076. Restaurant Rincon – the original authentic IGH Mexican restaurant.
2. The Carne Asada Taco from Restaurant Rincon Mexicano
There are two things that make this authentic Mexican taco so good. First, it’s the meat, grilled steak, charred to perfection, that gets this taco off to a great start. It comes served in a corn tortilla with onions and cilantro. But what really makes this taco great is the salsa verde (green sauce) from Rincon Mexicano. Add this to the taco, and you have arguably the best taco in Inver Grove Heights – this could have easily been number one on the list, but we’re partial to crispy hard shells, so this is second on the list.
3. The Fish Taco from the Mississippi Pub
If you like deep fried flour tacos, packed with all the fixings, head to the Miss issippi Pub and order the tacos. The beef and chicken are served with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese. They are big, and filling. Two is often enough for the manliest appetite. But we suggest trying the fish taco from the Mississippi Pub. This taco features wild caught Alaskan white fish, hand battered in the Pub’s signature recipe, fried to a crisp golden brown, with coleslaw, spicy aioli, and pico de gallo. It’s a crispy, spicy, deep fried treat. Make it a basket, and it comes served with homemade chips and salsa. While you’re at it, order a couple beers, and make it a party.
4. Deep fried beef tacos from The Bierstube
They have tacos at the Bierstube? Yes. Why aren’t they on the menu? Not sure. But we know one thing: Blair from Town Square Television, our trusted local sports broadcaster, is a huge fan of these tacos. And we trust Blair’s opinion on this one, because well, he is right. Big, meaty, deep fried and full of beef. Just some good old fashioned deep fried American style tacos. Ask for lots of hot sauce.
5. Aussie Steak tacos – Outback steakhouse
Sure, people are going to cringe. Tacos from a chain restaurant – a steakhouse at that? Yeah, we get it. But the steak and chicken tacos at Outback are pretty good. We prefer the steak, which provide a great lunch option. This includes three grilled steak tacos topped with crispy slaw, fresh pico de gallo, melted cheese and an herb aioli. It’s filling. Wash it down with a diet coke, and you have a great lunch. These steak and chicken tacos are available at dinner too.
6. Taqueria El Rincon tacos
This is the other new authentic Mexican restaurant in Inver Grove Heights. If you like meat, meat, and more meat in your tacos, you’ll love the authentic Mexican tacos from the “other” authentic Mexican restaurant in Inver Grove Heights. They come in many styles – asada, pastor, pollo, carnitas – and more. We admit we haven’t been to this new restaurant to try all the tacos yet, but the one’s we have had are good, authentic, and packed with meat. These are also very salty, which is why we don’t have them ranked higher. But IGH residents love them, and this restaurant is off to a good start. Taqueria El Rincon is located at 6550 Cahill Ave S Inver Grove Heights MN Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, MN 55076, in the same building as Aldi, and in the old J’s Fish and Chicken location.
Other tacos and Mexican food to consider in Inver Grove Heights:
Jerseys Bar and Grill taco special: The Tuesday specials include $3 Single Tacos, 3 Tacos for $6.99, and all-you-can-at tacos for $11.99.
Baja Fish Tacos – B52 Burgers and Brew: Two tilapia tacos on soft flour tortillas. Served with queso fresco, spicy sour cream, pico de gallo.
Fresh guacamole – El Azteca: What’s better than chips and guac? How about fresh guac? You can get homemade, fresh guacamole made table side at El Azteca Mexican restaurant in Inver Grove Heights. Order the large, and devour with chips, salsa and a margarita. El Azteca has vastly improved and is a good sit down Mexican restaurant, but the tacos are not this restaurants strength – so order something else.
