One of the biggest party days of the year took place with St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday. And let’s just say, if you were partying in Inver Grove Heights, you were part of something legendary. The parties were, as some like to say “off the hook” at Jersey’s Bar and Grill, The Mississippi Pub and Celts Pub. And for those who were in downtown St. Paul, you know that is the best St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the country.
But now, it’s the day and weekend after and the post-St. Patrick’s Day hangover is setting in and many partygoers are feeling a world of hurt this morning as they wake up with a dry throat, steaming headache, empty wallet and anguish from poor decision-making.
But hey, it happens. Now is the time to recover from that hangover and get back to full strength, physically and mentally. How can one do that? Here are 10 ways both Inver Grove Heights and South Saint Paul partygoers can cure a St. Patrick’s Day Hangover:
1.Back to the bar for a bloody mary
For some, a leveler, or hair of the dog, is just what the hangover ordered. A bloody mary can help reduce the hurt, so they will head back to the place they partied to get their cash card, look for their lost cell phone or wallet and try and recall what the hell happened the night before. Some want to stay as far away as possible to the place they were last night, but want to get some grub and a drink, so Ruby Tuesday, Applebee’s or Outback Steakhouse are all good options for those who went to Jersey’s, Celts, The Pub, Drkula’s, Overboard Bar and Grill or The Bierstube yesterday. But even if you have a bloody mary, screwdriver or one more beer, the hangover is eventually going to settle in, there is no way around that.
2. The pizza buffet at Old World Pizza
For many, the day after involves eating as much as possible and what better place in Inver Grove Heights than Old World Pizza? All the pizza you want from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Be sure to shower, if possible, and brush your teeth because you know you will run into someone you know and don’t want to see on this day. Enjoying the best pizza in Inver Grove Heights, eating some pasta and maybe a salad will help you in the recovery process. Drink plenty water and chow down – then take a nap. One more thing: Don’t wear your damn pajama pants to the buffet (or anywhere else in public), no matter how hungover you are.
3. Stockmen’s for breakfast -anytime of the day or night
There’s nothing better than a greasy breakfast – no matter when you wake up, at a truck stop. Stockmen’s is the place to go and if you can’t make it there, the T&T Galley is the next best option.
4. SSP VFW fish fry
Open for lunch and dinner, all-you-can-eat fish, beans, mac and cheese and bread can soak up that alcohol and give you the sustenance one needs to work their way to recovery. We suggest heading down for lunch and getting enough to-go food to last all day and night.
5. The Coop Restaurant
Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, burgers, coney dogs, french fries. The chicken at The Coop is great for a hangover, but the cheeseburgers are underrated and worth checking out. In fact, remember when JT’s in West Saint Paul was good? The single cheeseburger reminds us of that burger – but better. For $3 it’s worth it. Get four cheeseburgers to go, eat one on the way home and three when you get home and then take a nap. Add some fries or mashed potatoes and really sleep hard.
6. Peking Cafe
Chinese food rates as the ultimate hangover cure. While we recently wrote about how A&L Chinese is the hidden secret of the IGH food scene, many locals will rant and rave about Peking Cafe. Their greasy processed food is a great cure for the hangover. We feel the better option is the chicken lo mein, chicken fried rice and any of the spicy shrimp dishes at Super Work, but people love Peking Cafe. Whatever your favorite local Chinese/Asian restaurant know this: There’s plenty of options to go around in the two cities so we don’t need a “Peking Cafe is the best” battle going. Super Wok and Peking are best ordered to go or for delivery though, especially when you have a hangover and want to avoid people.
7. White Castle
Get bombed? Get some gut bombs. Try the chicken ring sandwiches too, those are fantastic. Just don’t forget to ask for packets of mayo as White Castle does not add mayo to sandwiches.
8. J’S Fish and Chicken
Get the philly cheese steak and a heaping portion of fries. Add some of the many appetizers. And take a nap.
9. Urgent Care or After Hours clinics
Not feeling right? Wake up with a stranger next to you? Then maybe you should head to the doctor for a check up. The Entira Family Clinic and Allina clinic in Inver Grove Heights are both open after hours.
10. St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for Repentance
St. Patrick’s Day is a Catholic holiday, so it means only Catholics went out and partied last night, right? Repentance is the activity of reviewing one’s actions and feeling contrition or regret for past wrongs. This may be needed for some.
