And for many, dinner and a movie is still a popular night out. So where are the best IGH restaurants to visit before going to a movie at AMC Inver Grove 16? We provide a list here:
1. B52 Burgers and Brew
B52 Burgers and Brew – home to variety of award-winning burgers, beer, and an awesome rooftop patio, located right next to the parking lot of AMC Inver Grove 16, is the top destination for AMC Showplace IGH moviegoers. A 100-seat rooftop patio opened in June of 2017, and provides the best view in the city. B52 Burgers and Brew also serves Buffalo wings (ask for them to be extra crispy!), build-your-own quesadillas, and a long list of appetizers, sandwiches, flatbreads, and other entrees. On Saturday night, the Illetschko’s Meats Ribeye – a tender 14 ounce bone-in, extra-marbled ribeye, topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and a black pepper cream sauce, served with fries, is only $14.99. In addition, moviegoers who bring their ticket stub to B52 Burgers and Brew, get a free beer or $5 off their bill (does not apply on rooftop patio). So be sure to check out B52 Burgers and Brew Inver Grove Heights before and after going to AMC Showplace 16 Inver Grove Heights. Distance – walking, can literally park at theatre and walk to B52 if needed.
2. Old World Pizza
A staple of Inver Grove Heights, this is the best pizza in Inver Grove Heights. Old World Pizza features an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for $8.25 every day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a similar dinner buffet Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for $9.25. With both buffets, kids 10 and under eat for under $5. Old World Pizza has the best sausage pizza around, and a number of specialty pizzas. If you can’t get the buffet, no worries, there is still something magical about your own, made to order pizza from Old World Pizza made just for you. You can get the crust in its original thin crust, or in a thick deep dish, if requested. Both are great options. Old World Pizza is just across the street from AMC Showplace 16 in Inver Grove Heights and will fill you up, leave you satisfied and coming back for more. Distance: Can literally park at theatre and walk to Old World Pizza if needed – but you do have to cross the street, and it’s a bit tricky. Definitely drive to in winter. Probably drive anyway since you will be stuffed!
3. 1.2.3. Pasta
This new restaurant – opened in summer 2017, is the best Italian restaurant in Inver Grove Heights, and arguably the east metro. Chef Luca Taretto, who worked as a chef at La Grolla, a popular St. Paul restaurant, and staff have quickly helped this authentic Italian restaurant become a favorite in IGH. There are weekly specials, but if you like shrimp alfredo pasta, you will have the best shrimp alfredo pasta ever at 1.2.3. Pasta in Inver Grove Heights. Don’t go to 1.2.3. Pasta looking for pizza. While the pizza is decent, the authentic Italian dishes are what make this restaurant good. There are new specials weekly, and you can get something simple (including the build-your-own pasta and sauce options) or something exotic and authentic. Don’t think just because this restaurant is in a strip mall that it’s a fast casual restaurant either. It’s a full-service, sit down, dine-in, date night, get some really good Italian food type of restaurant. It’s small, so we recommend sitting in the far corner at the bar, enjoying your space, and enjoying a great menu and great food. Distance to AMC Showplace 16 – driving, less than three minutes.
4. Outback Steakhouse
The Inver Grove Heights Outback Steakhouse is a popular restaurant. If you like Outback Steakhouse food, you will like this Outback Steakhouse. It’s on the same side of B52 Burgers and Brew, separated by a hotel, and a short walk or drive from AMC Showplace 16 theatre. If you make it for lunch, try the steak or chicken tacos. The wings are also sneaky good. Distance to AMC Inver Grove 16 – a short walk, but too far to walk in cold weather.
Applebee’s is across the street and only a few turns from AMC Showplace 16. You know what to expect from Applebee’s – chain restaurant food, that sometimes is decent and sometimes isn’t (if you are okay with that, you will go, if not, check out another option on the list), and the service is generally good, the bar area is nice, and the restaurant is never so busy you can’t get in and out quick if trying to make a movie. Distance to AMC Showplace 16 – across the street and down the road – just a few turns away.
Others to consider:
Boulevard Bar and Grille: This restaurant is often overlooked by moviegoers because it’s in West Saint Paul, but it’s one of the better options on this list. It’s just off Highway 52 and Southview Blvd, and is less than five minutes from AMC Showplace 16. If you’re looking for a menu with a lot of variety, good burgers, wings, sandwiches, pizzas, appetizers, and more, then Boulevard Bar and Grille is a great place to stop before or after a movie. Get a bite to eat before, stop in for a drink after. Distance to AMC Inver Grove 16 driving – less than 5 minutes.
Jersey’s Bar and Grill: Located on Concord, Jersey’s is less than a 5 minute drive from AMC Showplace 16 IGH. Also features live music on weekends along with a diverse menu featuring award-winning burgers and a full menu, which includes a Friday fish fry all year round.
Bierstube: Head down Upper 55th to Cahill and head South to Bierstube. This restaurant has been in IGH for 40+ years, and features steaks, sandwiches, burgers, German dishes, and appetizers. It’s a classic dark bar, with a Wisconsin supper club vibe.
Drac’s Pub at Drkula’s: This restaurant inside a bowling alley serves up some good food. But the kitchen is small, and it takes a while to get your food. So if pressed for time, pick another restaurant on this list.
Cahill Diner: A favorite for breakfast and lunch – closes at 2 p.m. but a diner feel for a late breakfast or lunch before an early movie.
Mississippi Pub: Located on the Mississippi River, this hidden treasure has a great patio, and a strong menu. Try the deep dried pickles, or tacos. It’s about a 7 minute drive from AMC Showplace 16. Allow some extra time the first time you go, so you can be sure to find it.
Overboard Bar and Grill: Also located on the Mississippi River, this is a favorite place for boaters in the summer. They have a nice deck on the river, and some really good pizza. Near Mississippi Pub.
There are also some really good, but often overlooked small restaurants worth checking out in IGH before going to a movie at AMC Inver Grove 16 including these three that are less than a two minute drive away from AMC Showplace 16, but a little harder to find for those new to IGH:
J’s Fish and Chicken: Gyros, Philly cheesesteak, appetizers, wings, chicken, fish, in a small dine-in setting. A local favorite.
El Rincon Mexicano: Authentic Mexican dishes served here – try the asada tacos, or the authentic American tacos with hard shells. The burrito is massive. Good food served in a small dine-in setting.
El Taqueria Rincon: Located in the same building as Aldi, this newbie confuses people since the name is so similar to El Rincon Mexicano. El Taqueria also serves up good authentic Mexican dishes in a small setting.
